Assignment 3: Birthday Card

Above are my sketch and the sample birthday card design that I chose to modify.

If you hadn't notice, there's an Islamic crescent at the right bottom corner of the greeting page.

STEPS

Step 1:

I use the Rounded Rectangle Tool to create the pale-green background. Copy them many times, changed the sizes and placed them randomly (but in-order) in the assigned area. I started off by drawing the cream part of the cupcake/cake with Pencil Tool followed by Effect>Stylize>Inner Glow to make the cupcake looks glowy and delicious. Gradient was used to make the color.

Step 2:
The base/cup of the cake, I made it by using Pen Tool for the straight lines and Pencil Tool for the continuous curves and then, I added on colors.

Step 3:

I drew the candle stick and flame with Pencil Tool and adjusted the line of the stick to make it look like it's going to melt. I added Effect>Stylize>Inner Glow to the flame to basically make it glow! Gradient was again used to make the color.

Step 4:

I drew all the food with Pencil Tool, adjusted the lines and use Gradient for the color.

Step 5:

I drew a rough sketch of house rooftop by using Pen Tool.

Step 6:

I drew the presents with Pen Tool and some with Pencil Tool.

Step 7:
This is what we called a 'Bouncer'. I drew the lines of the bouncer with Pencil Tool and later changed the thickness of the brush I used. I used Pen Tool for the bodies and Ellipse Tool for the heads. It looks like they are having fun.

Finally,

In reality, Bruneian do not really have a specific traditional birthday celebration but the influence from the west made it exist and possible. Despite the influence, Bruneians usually started off the celebration with the recitation of prayers such as the 'Doa Selamat' and a prayer especially for the birthday celebrators. The prayers are basically to bless the ceremony and the birthday celebrators and also to remind ourselves to thank God every now and then and pray to God to elongate our life span and make our fortune flows easily to us.
